Essex
Essex is located just north-east of London and is crammed full of historic treasures, hidden in some of the tiny villages throughout the county, including Layer Marney tower, the tallest Tudor gatehouse in England, Hedingham Castle, a stunning Norman Keep built in 1140 and visited by Queen Elizabeth I.
Essex is also the home to Colchester Castle which is located at the heart of Britain's oldest recorded town. Another first for Essex was the birth of radio in Chelmsford by Marconi.
